Ito City / The Short Summary Of Ito-shi

Ito City is one of the exciting spa resort city in the Izu Peninsula. The city is faced to the Pacific Ocean, so it has spa and beach resort. Every year, thousands of people visit Ito City to enjyo their resort life. So Hakusyu Kitahara, Tekkan and Akiko Yosano, Kyoshi Takahama and many writers and artists has loved to spend their time in the city.

Ito City was in the region of Izu-no-kuni (Izu Province) until the Meiji Restoration happened. Now it belong to Shzioka Prefecture.

Izu Province was the place of exile in the Middle Ages, so Yoritomo Minamoto and Nichiren were famou deportees. Yoritomo might ran around the area in his young age, and he met Yaehime a daughter of the lord of Ito, Sukekiyo Ito, and loved together. But the father disagreed with their romance, he separated them as he was afraid of the central government because Yoritomo was the deprtee. Otonashi Jinja Shrine was the place Yoritomo and Yaehime met and loved each other.After that Yoritomo married with Masako Hojo and he became the first Shogun founded Kamakura Bakufu (Kamakura Shogunate), the first samurai government in 1192. In addition, Nichiren the founder of Nichiren Sect was condemned the Kamakura Bakufu to banish to Ito in 1261. In the City, there are some remains of him. Renchakuji Temple was the Nichren's place to exile. Moreover, Ito was the place of the tale of Soga Brothers that tells how Soga Brothers avenged their father's death in Kamakura Period. This story is one of the 3 most famous revenges in Japan.

In Edo Period, Anjin Miura (William Adams from Britain) constructed two European Style ship first in Japan in 1605. Anjin was cast up on the coast of Japan in 1598, and Ieyasu the founder of Edo Bakufu loved his talent and he hired him in his governmet. Anjin told a lot of European technologies to Japan.
