Shirahige Jinja and Ukisu Sengen Jinja in Higashi Komatsugawa
Shirahige Jinja in Higashi Komatsugawa is a guardian deity of this town.
It has no specific information when and who built the shrine, but it has
been stood in this woods since
Edo period as it was appeared on Shinpen Musashi Fudokiko (a geographic guidebook
describing
Musashi province published in Edo period). There are swings along the approach road and
sometimes children play them with their big smiles in this quiet woods.
In summer, people could enjoy their leisure time under gingko and zelkova
trees standing the woods. Behind the main hall, there stands Ukisu Sengen
Jinja that had been moved. Visitors could enjoy feeling that time is passing
and they could forget about time when they sit on the stone steps in front
of Shirahige and Ukisu Sengen Jinja. Why don't you visit it?
The Historic Site Ukisu Sengen Jinja
Ukisu Sengen Jinja had been a guardian deity of a piece of the former
Higashi Komatsugawa Village's land (now it is in Nakagawa Canal), and it
is standing in the site of Shirahige Jinja in Higashi Komatsugawa. There
is no information when it was built, but it is said to be one of the oldest
shrines in
Edogawaku. In 1648, Iemitsu Tokugwa, the Third Shogun of
Edo Bakufu gave a piece of land to manage it. The shrine dedicates Ameno Hiwashihiko no Mikoto.
The story telling beginning of this shrine exists and it tells 'it had
been a small island in the river. When one fisherman was waiting for that
the tide would be turning, he found a card that Konohana Sakuyahime no
Mikoto was written on it was flown on the river. Then he put it in sands
on the small island and the island become larger and larger, finally villagers
built Sengen Jinja Shrine on it.'
Ukima Sengen Jinja was described on Narita Sankeiki (a guidebook describing
the way to Narita from
Edo in Edo period), and it said the shrine has two mirrors as its holy treasures.
