Kamagaya city / The Short Summary Of Kamagaya-shi
Kamagaya city is on the western part of
Chiba prefecture. And Kamagaya city is also located on the middle of Narita International
Airport and Haneda International Airport, therefore most foreigners had
visited Japan might have passed Kamagaya city once or more.
In the area now called Kamagaya, people had settled in ancient ages named Jomon period. Kaigarayama Park is named after the shell mound in the city.
In
Kamakura period, Soma Family, a family of samurai worrier joined
Kanmu Heishi Clan, owned lands in Satsuma in Kamagaya. And in
Edo period, a part of it, Honda Family, a retainer of
Tokugawa Shogun Family controlled, and other parts belonged to Koganemaki Pasture to raise and
to train horses for Shogun's arms.
Besides, Kioroshi Kaido Highway passes through Kamagaya City, it was called
Kashima Kaido Highway in Edo period and Basho Matsuo,
Musashi Miyamoto and many people walked on it to go to Hitachi province (Ibaraki Prefecture)
from
Edo (
Tokyo).
Hayashimizu Spring was the starting point of
Takumibori or
Jotenbori canal passing through
Gyotoku and
Urayasu as the great irrigation canal to help people until middle of the 20th
century.
In 1971, Kamagaya was incorporated as Kamagaya City.
