Yamatotakeru no Mikoto / The Prince Yamatotakeru
Yamatotakeru no Mikoto (the Prince Yamatotakeru) is one of the greatest
heros in legends of Japanese history. He is also the most famous and popular
hero in Japan. He is the son of the Emperor Keiko, he is also called Ousu
no Mikoto and Yamato Oguna no Mikoto.
The Prince Yamatotakeru is very bravery, so his father, the Emperor Keiko
ordered him to raise his arm to subjugate several states that had opposed
the Imperial Court in Yamato. He contributed a lot in battles to unite
Japan under the Court, he subdued Kumaso in Kyushu, after that he went
to the eastern part of Japan to subjugate. Finally, he was died from diseases
in Nobono in
Ise on the way back to Yamato (his mother land and the capital city at that
time) since he lost the battle against the god of Mt.Ibuki. He became a
swan and flew to Yamato.
His marches to subjugate have been told as legends in Nihonshoki (the oldest
chronicles of Japan), Kojiki (the records of ancient matters) and Fudoki
(the chronicles of local Japan), especially the stories about Kusanagi
no Tsurugi Sword given by his aunt Yamatohime no Mikoto (the Princess Yamato)
in Ise and his wife Ototachibanahime (the Princess Ototachibana) are famous.
Yamatotakeru no Mikoto is the greatest hero, whose subjugations to several states to unite Japan under the power of the Imperial Court in Yamato was symbolized on. Especially according to Kojiki, after the subjugation marches of the First Emperor Jinmu, Yamatotakeru no Mikoto completed the work of the expansion of the forces of the Imperial Court in Yamato that he was succeeded from the Emperor Korei and Sujin.
Now the name Yamatotakeru no Mikoto was given by the chief of Kumaso who was suppressed by him.
