The Popular Noted Spots and Landmarks in Edogawa City
Edogawaku in
Tokyo is on a narrow shape area extending north and south in between Arakawa
and
Edogawa River. Before
Ieyasu Tokugawa, the first Shogun of
Edo Bakufu, settled in
Edo, there had been wide wetlands. Areas called Ichinoe, Ninoe, Mizue, Harue
and Matsue has 'e' in their ends and 'e' means water bodies flowing into
lands, thus, they imply that there are lakes or seas in Edogawaku at that
time. Moreover, areas named Kojima (a small island), Matsushima (a pine
island) and Nagashima (a long island) are in the city. They all tell what
the city looked like at that time. Ieyasu started
Tonegawa Tosen (the project of moving Tonegawa River to east,) then the lands (now in
Edogawaku) was dried and people opened their fields and they grew much
food for people in Edo, so they called it 'Edo no Daidokoro (the kitchen
of Edo). And there are many shrines and temples along the water parks,
especially,
Shinkawa,
Furukawa Water Park,
Ichinoe Sakaigawa Water Park and
Komatsugawa Sakaigawa Water Park has many temples along them, it implies that these areas had been flourished
by water transportation then since to build a temple or a shrine needs
much money. Anyway, the building date of these temples tell the land scape
of the areas before Edo period. While walking on the beautiful parks, visitors
could find the history of Edogawa City. Besides, every park in it is unique.
